Abstract

The author interprets the communal violence between Dayaks and Madurese in Kalimantan from a Dayak perspective. Many observers have described the conflict in terms of 'headhunting' or 'revenge'. The author argues that the real reason for the violence lies in the refusal of Madurese to respect Dayak adat.
